Step 1: Download Music Files to PC

To get songs for your psp, you can either rip music cds to your computer, or download MP3 music files via the Internet. Doing a quick music downloads search on Google will turn up lots of sites where you can get songs to download to your PSP.

Note: You might have to extract your music files from a compression format, like ZIP or RIF. Unzipping utilities are common now days on both PC and Mac, however, you can find a free program online that will do the job. Besides downloading music online you can also Rip music from your own CD collection onto your computer.

Step 2: Hook Up PSP to Computer

Before connecting your PSP to the PC, it’s recommended to switch off your PSP first. Connect your PSP to your computer with a USB cable and press the “HOME” button to turn on your PSP. Next, open the “settings” menu and scroll down to where it says “USB connection” and press the X button. Your PSP memory stick will connect with your computer so you can transfer your MP3 files.

Step 3: Transfer Music Files to PSP

To transfer music to PSP, the MP3 files should be placed in a folder marked: “psp>music” as other locations won’t work. Navigate to the “psp” folder and then to the “music” folder (be mindful that you may need to create a “music” folder) and copy the MP3 files into the new “music” folder. After transferring your music files onto your PSP, simply press the PSP’s “O” button to get out of the USB connect mode.
